I honestly don’t think I have EVER disclosed the supplements that I take. Never have I tried to hide it, I just don’t think anyone has ever asked to be honest. But since I’m started a bunch of new supps this week, I figured it would be a great time to talk about them! A couple of things to disclose:
- I’m a natural athlete. I do not use ANY form of PED’s. I never have and I never will. (I can imagine some have suspected I am considering my acne on my face/back/chest, but I’ve been struggling with acne since middle school.)
- Supplements aren’t a requirement when it comes to reaching a particular fitness goal.. You don’t NEED them. Do I think they help? Absolutely. But they aren’t necessary.
- Just because I take these things, doesn’t mean you should. PERIOD. This is for documentation/educational purposes only and to show that contest prep is possible without drugs. Maybe it will give you some ideas in case you take something similar but don’t like the product!
- Supplements usually only help if you already have a diet and exercise regimen to support them. They don’t do the work for you.
Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll start with the supplements I already have been taking everyday and have been for over a year now:
Women’s multivitamin – I take OLLY Women’s Multivitamin and you can get them online or at Target for around $14. I’m a child and love gummy vitamins. I take 2/day and do NOT count the carbs in them. I don’t feel like there’s much more to say about a multivitamin, lol. SHOP HERE
Vitamin D3 – I got mine from Vitacost for about $11. Vitamin D supports bone health, muscle function, and your immune system. I take one 5,000 IUD pill/day. SHOP HERE
Omegalyze – This is what I take in replacement of fish oil because I can’t stand the taste. This supplement contains Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats and one serving is 3 pills. There are only 2.8g of fat in 3 pills, but I only take two and Red told me also not to track them. This supplement helps to maintain your cholesterol and blood pressure, support a healthy response to inflammation after your workouts, and optimize your hormone levels. You can get this for about $50. SHOP HERE
Probiotic – I just take a cheap GNC brand. Nothing special. You can find one for around 20-30$ for sure. I would highly recommend for gut health!
Here’s a low down of what I just started taking at 8 weeks out. All of these supplements are new to my body so I’m unsure how I’ll respond to them.
Morpholean – On the bottle, it says in big letters “energy,” “reduce hunger,” and “burn fat.” Does it actually do these things? Not entirely sure yet! Ha! This supp is also supposed to assist in fat oxidation, thermogenesis, increasing your metabolism, eliminating stubborn fat stores, and decreasing appetite. There’s 50mg of caffeine in one pill, which isn’t much. This one was on the spendier side and I paid $48 for it. My understanding is that it’s just a fat burner with some added benefits. SHOP HERE
SupprEST DIM – This supplement helps remove excess levels of estrogen to assist getting rid of the extra stubborn fat. As a woman, your body wants fat. It wants to hang onto it for dear life and the estrogen in my body helps maintain that. This also works to battle fatigue, mood swings, and lowered libido. I feel like this supplement is going to really help me out since I’ve had a harder time with these things in the past. The main ingredient in this is actually zinc – a whopping 40mg. This is 267% of the daily recommended value! I bought this for $30. SHOP HERE
Acetyl L Carnitine – This is an amino acid that helps the body produce energy. It assists heart and brain function, muscle movement and cell function. It boosts cellular energy and helps transport fatty acids. You can get this for $22 from Amazon. SHOP HERE
EGCg (Green tea extract) – In one pill, you’ll find the phytonutrient content equal to 2-3 cups of green tea. I really don’t like tea, so I’m grateful I can just take it in pill form. It’s a free radical scavenger and supports cellular health, too. (Seems like my coach wants me to have healthy cells, haha!) It helps maintain tissues in the face of metabolic stress (AKA what I’m doing right now by dieting on low cals). This one is cheaper and found on Amazon for $16. SHOP HERE
7 Keto DHEA – This is another non-hormonal fat loss agent. Basically, it increases my metabolic rate to help in getting lean. I found this one also on Amazon for $22. SHOP HERE
Yohimbine HCl – A lot of people take this, but it’s my first run on it. I’m supposed to take it 20 minutes before my cardio. It’s a vasodilator (increases blood flow) and supports heart health and fat synthesis. The reviews on this are pretty solid. You can get a lot of this for super cheap, too! It’s about $11 for 100 caps. SHOP HERE
*Glucosamine – This one is for joint pain. When you’re really lean, your body hates you. Your joints ache constantly and when you’re doing hours of cardio a day that doesn’t help. This stuff is just really great for improving joint pain. It probably does more than just this, but that’s what I use this one for. SHOP HERE
*Glutamine – This is what I take when I start to get really lean and my body hurts. It helps with muscle function and aids in recovery after your workouts. I only take this when I need it. SHOP HERE
*Exlax – Yep, a laxative. Sometimes you need it. This stuff is a lot more powerful than Smooth Move (a laxative tea) or coffee. This saves my life. SHOP HERE
*I don’t take these supps every day, just when I feel I need them.*
